Observation Narrative
Plot captures a variant on the classic mixed oak/heath vegetation of the inner Coastal Plain in which Quercus coccinea and Q. alba share dominance with Q. falcata. Herbaceous species are nearly entirely absent. Plot is located in a ca. 6 ha hardwood stand southeast of sinkhole pond S4 that contains relatively little Pinus taeda. Abundance of Acer rubrum in the understory likely reflects fire exclusion in recent decades.
From flagged, emergent Pinus taeda (48 cm dbh): 11.75 m @ 359 deg to Stake C
